How to set up courses for assessment

Step 1: Decide which option you are doing for assessment

  1. Do you have SLO rubrics?
  2.  If no, you are doing the 鈥渃ase-by-case鈥 option below. 
  3. If yes, answer question 2.
  4. Will you be using the SAME ASSIGMENT in multiple sections of a course to assess an SLO?
  5. If no, you are doing option 鈥淚ndependent鈥 option below.
  6. If yes, you are doing option 鈥淪tandardize鈥 option below.

 

Standardized option

Description: The key assignment is pre-loaded with outcomes and is pushed out to all sections.

Setup

  1.  to create a development blueprint
  2. Write to knehrbass@calbaptist.edu to ensure your outcomes are created   in Canvas.
  3. Create the assignment in the blueprint, which will be used for assessing the SLO
  4. Create a grading rubric for that assignment

  1. Find   your program outcome that is being assessed with this assignment
  2. Add that outcome to your grading rubric (Pro tip: make sure 鈥渦se this rubric for grading鈥 is checked)

Deploy

  1. Remind all professors teaching sections of this class to use that rubric to grade/assess that assignment

Assess

  1. After the semester is over, go to intelligent insights 飪 鈥渁sk your data鈥 

 

Independent Option 

Description: There may be multiple sections of a course, but you don鈥檛 control the assignment in other professors鈥 sections of that course. Or you only teach a single section of this class, so don鈥檛 need a standardized option (above) at this time. You will be doing a report called "learning mastery"

Setup

  1. Write to knehrbass@calbaptist.edu to ensure your outcomes are created   in Canvas
  2. Find the assignment in your current version of your course, which will be used for assessing the SLO
  3. Ensure there is a grading rubric for that assignment

  1. Find   your program outcome that is being assessed with this assignment
  2. Add that outcome to your grading rubric (Pro tip: make sure 鈥渦se this rubric for grading鈥 is checked)

  1. In course settings鈥>feature options, ensure that 鈥渓earning mastery鈥 is enabled

Deploy

  1.  Use that rubric to grade/assess that assignment

Assess

  1.  After the semester is over, go to gradebook, and click 鈥済rade book鈥 dropdown menu, and select 鈥渓earning mastery gradebook鈥.  See the Outcomes report for your class section

Case-by-case Option 

Description: You don鈥檛 have SLO rubrics at this time.

Implement

  1.  Consult your purple card 鈥渃riteria for success鈥 in Weave to see what benchmark you set. What assignment did you plan to use? How did you plan to measure student achievement? 
  1.  Work with Educational Effectiveness to find a plan for assessing this outcome.
