Dr. Michael J. Nalbandian received his B.S. in Environmental Engineering and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UC Riverside in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
Dr. Nalbandian joined CBU's College of Engineering as a visiting professor in the fall of 2015 and currently serves as a full professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Management, where he teaches environmental engineering courses including aquatic and atmospheric chemistry. Prior to this, he balanced roles as a postdoctoral researcher in the Innovation Economy Corporation Laboratory at UC Riverside and an adjunct chemistry professor in CBU's Department of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. He is passionate about engaging and encouraging students in STEM and its connection to God鈥檚 creation and character.
Dr. Nalbandian specializes in environmental chemistry, water treatment, emerging contaminants, and environmental nanotechnology. As an undergraduate researcher, he contributed to a project on catalytic ozonation for degrading organic contaminants using carbon nanotubes. His doctoral research鈥攆unded by a 2011 U.S. EPA grant on electrospun nanofibers for water treatment鈥攔esulted in seven peer-reviewed publications, a feature in ACS鈥檚 top ten sustainable chemistry papers (2016), and a citation by the Nanotechnology Signature Initiative white paper. Recently, he co-authored an extensive review on the applications of electrospun nanomaterials in watertreatment technologies in the Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances
Dr. Nalbandian is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and belongs to several honor societies, including Tau Beta Pi and Omicron Delta Kappa. He also serves as a peer reviewer for multiple international journals, including Materials and Design, Processes, and Sustainability.
Dr. Nalbandian was born in Cr茅teil, France, and raised in Alfortville, France, before moving to Burbank, 91短视频, with his family at an early age. He is married to Dr. Jenifer N. Nalbandian, whose love language is passport stamps and dog kisses. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys spending time with his wife, working on arts and crafts, watching and playing sports, playing music, and gaming. He also actively serves at Discovery Christian Church in Moreno Valley.
